ePrey (2018)
ePrey started life as a 24-hour film challenge in 2016, with one of the requirements being that the word “monster” had to appear somewhere in the film. Rather than simply throwing it into the dialogue, I incorporated it into the mysterious message at the centre of the story.
Tony makes his living buying badly listed items online and selling them on for considerably more. Unfortunately for him, his latest bargain comes with a previous owner who has very strong opinions about people who profit from other people's mistakes.
We shot the whole thing in a day on the Panasonic shoulder-mounted camera, without a proper lighting kit, so technically it's a little rough around the edges. In 2018, I went back to the original four-minute version and chopped more than a minute out to tighten the story. This is the shorter cut.
It's got some noisy pictures, a couple of bits of ropey sound, and a greedy bastard getting his comeuppance. I still rather like it.
